When I first heard that the Broadway touring production of Mary Poppins was coming to one of my favorite theaters in LA I was very excited. Emma has seen the movie many times and she loves it so I thought this would be a great introduction to theater for her. She has been to many shows in the past, but this was going to be her first "big" one. My mom and I love musicals so I was really looking forward to sharing that with Emma.
To make a long story short, I should have done more research on the show. I mistakenly made the assumption that the musical would mirror the movie. It did not. While it did have the majority of the popular songs from the movie, the musical integrated parts of the original book which contained a rather mean nanny. Emma is very sensitive to "evil" people and she definitely did not like even the idea of a mean nanny. I certainly learned my lesson on this one :-)
It was still a nice evening though and the actors, scenery and musical numbers were really good. I don't foresee us going back to this particular show though until Emma can grasp the concept of acting.

We almost bought tickets to take the oldest kids, but then decided not to. Now I am glad that we didn't - I had no idea about the mean stuff. But it still sounds like y'all had a fun time together.
