July 21st

This past week was really busy.  Emma turned 5 on Thursday and she took chocolate chip muffins to school to celebrate with her friends.  On Friday she went on a field trip to the pirate park and ended her first summer session at Pasadena Christian School.  It was a really good 4 week session and her second session starts on Monday.  I was at school with her on Friday and had a chance to observe the teachers and kids for quite a while.  My time there solidified my positive feelings about the environment and I am so glad that Emma is continuing to thrive in a nurturing school.  I was immensely proud of her as she lead all of the students and teachers in prayer before snack time.  When I heard it was her turn to stand in front of everyone and recite the prayer I was a little nervous and I was sure she would say the words very softly.  Much to my surprise, she was very articulate and spoke in a loud voice.  I'm sure I had the goofy smile of a proud mom on my face.  Emma's grandpa came in to town during the afternoon which was a very special treat for her.  On Saturday we had a birthday party to celebrate Emma's big day.  This year we rented a one room house from the City of South Pasadena that sits on the north end of a park.  It's in a really pretty setting, has a kitchen and bathroom, but most importantly it had air conditioning (it has been very warm here lately).  I also found a magician and we hired him to entertain the kids for an hour.  He did fun tricks, made a bunny magically appear and also constructed balloon animals for everyone.  I also set up a craft table for the kids and made some treats.  Every year I am sad that I don't take enough pictures during the party.  You would think that after this many birthday parties I would remedy that, but this year was no exception.  I am kicking myself today for not getting more pictures.  I guess there's always next year :-)

I love her strawberry shortcake-rainbow pony-puppy dog theme! :) So cute that you have continued the tradition of making her the tissue paper number. It looks like a great party! Glad to hear that school is going so well.
