August 8th

Emma and I walked into the grocery story the other day and she made a beeline for a cake display featuring princess mini cakes. They combined two of her current loves...princesses and cake. Emma was beyond excited. I told her she could pick out one and you would have thought I had given her the world based on her reaction. She immediately went for Sleeping Beauty and she clutched the container tightly while we were in the store and she repeatedly told me to slow down on the drive home so that I wouldn't knock her princess over. The cashier asked if it was Emma's birthday (it wasn't) and I told her I was just giving her a special treat because overall she is a really good girl. Emma definitely has her moments and can try my patience like no other, but she is generally a super sweet girl.

I am always grateful when I can treat Emma to something out of the ordinary because I'm very aware that some parents are not able to give their kids anything beyond the basics. While Chris and I are not wealthy, we can afford to give a little extra something to Emma occasionally and I am very thankful for that luxury. I think it gives me just as much pleasure giving it to her as she gets from receiving it.

That is one cool cake! I've seen the big version, but never the little ones. DO NOT show Tess! :)
