June 21st

Emma and I arrived in Houston along with my brother's family and we drove to Galveston after picking up a rental car. My mom rented a house in Pirate's Beach which is the same area we went to almost every summer while I was growing up. I have a lot of good memories associated with Galveston. It definitely felt different this time around since I was the one driving with my daughter asleep in the back of the car. I thought about the trips I had taken there when I was younger and I remember sleeping in the back on the floor of my dad's Bronco on the way over from Dallas.

I knew Emma would like the beach there since it's much more mild and warmer than the Pacific. I will definitely not dress Emma in new bathing suits the next time we go to Galveston. Sand found its' way between the lining of her bathing suits and it is pretty much impossible to remove it. I also hung her suits up to dry on a hook outside, but the metal stained the material (not sure if this is some sort of reaction between the metal and salt water or perhaps it was a rust reaction).

I didn't see nearly as many shells as I thought I would nor did I see any jellyfish. It would have been fun to collect shells, but I can definitely do without the jellyfish :-)
